Allsorts!

Testudo

No, not Liquorice Allsorts - horrid things!  All sorts of figures.  I have, over the past few weeks, painted all sorts of stuff.

Some have been for my 'Fire in the East' Project.  The way my/our new rules are shaping up, there may well be a need for some 'subordinate commanders' - hereafter known as 'Big Men', so I had a dig around in my spares boxes and came up with five unemployed Roman officers and two Sassanid 'Savaran' -who, being noble cavalry, will do for officers in the absence of any more suitable, specific models.  Photos of both these types can be found in the Third Century Roman and Sassanid photo albums, respectively.

I have also painted several items for my 'Britannia' project - including one or two 'Top Secret' items for Warlord Games, which I can't show you yet.  Of things I can show you, there's another Testudo to match my first one, some casualties for both sides - now available from Warlord - and some Roman engineers - also now available from Warlord.  Photos of all these can be seen in the First Century Romans photo album.  The casualties are nice little models and will be useful as markers - better than using dice or bits of card.  The engineers are simply exquisite little models.  They seemed very small when I began painting them - I'd forgotten that A&A's figures are much chunkier than Warlord's!  But they scale well alongside Warlord's Romans - and Wargames Foundry's too for that matter.  And alongside the Roman Engineers come 'sudes' - Roman palisade stakes.  So, at last, I'll be able to make myself a section of a marching camp - Paul at Warlord is going to be in for a surprise when he learns how many stakes I need...

As usual, all these figures have been painted using white primer, bright coloured base-coats, a coat of Army Painter 'Strong Tone' Quick Shade, Little Big Men Studios exquisite transfers and a squirt of Testors' Dull Cote.
